It’s a matter of telling our stories together

Some years ago I took it upon myself to do a study on Dendrochronology

(the study of Tree rings which allows us to interpret not only the life of a Tree but the health and story of a whole forest)

Each ring represents a year of life, but depending on the qualities of that ring- you are able to see deeper into the experiences of that Trees has had. You can see their challenges, their moments of growth, their connections and the patterns of their environment. In other words.. Its a form of Tree storytelling!

After learning the basics, I had an idea.. What if I could translate human stories in this Tree language as a way to instill more empathy between humans and Trees while also supporting organizations which are helping to reforest and regenerate the ecosystems which have suffered humanity's greed and destruction.

This project is new and still growing.. I call it "We are the Trees".

My hope is to support people to have relationships with our "more than human world". I hope to connect people to the ways of the Trees and support them in giving back to the earth and her losses.

The process..

Over an initial zoom session we will go through the story of your life.

We go through each year, or a chunk of years which have had a significant role in shaping who you are. You can share as much or as little as you please. The idea is to get an overall download of your life pattern. I record the session so that I can refer to it and craft your own personal tree ring which reflects the larger pattern and story of your life. Then using a reference photo of you (which you send to me) I paint a portrait of you with your personal tree rings. In particular I set the first ring over the 3rd eye and let the rings follow over the face.

This portrait is then for you! You could also buy one for a friend as a gift...

Each portrait is $275

30% of that goes to the Trees!
